UPJC Kapihan 2011
The UP Journalism Club recently held the Kapihan, its annual alumni homecoming, at the Bell Mansion condominium in Quezon City.
The Kapihan, which started out as a simple gathering over cups of coffee, aims to foster stronger ties between the organization’s alumni and current roster of members.
Themed “Hot and Steamy”, this year’s edition featured an “active” quiz show, which required the participants to perform certain tasks on top of answering news and current affairs questions. The highlight of the night, however, was the traditional “fishbowl” sharing, in which the members and alumni picked from a bowl phrases and questions related about the org they had to answer.
Earlier on the program, the current president, Ian Vincent Imperial, gave a state of the org address and presented the various projects and activities JC has accomplished thus far. The Campus Journalism Workshop Summer Camp (CJWSC) was also launched to the alumni.
JC’s resident band the “Skywalkers”—composed of Enzo Regondola, Beata Carolino, Aly Cabral, and Telle Delvo—delighted the attendees by peforming the “JC Song”, an original composition talking about life inside the organization.
But though the Kapihan was well-attended by the current members, Vice President for Alumni Relations Ralph Angelo Ty believes there is still room for alumni participation to improve. “I appreciate you all coming here tonight and fitting us in your busy schedules,” he beamed to the alumni in attendance, “but I hope more alumni will recognize and claim the crucial roles they play to the success of the organization.”
